Event Associates (Melbourne based)

Role description: Events and initiatives are the cornerstone of AAP. EAs play a key role in the entire events process, from ideating to planning and execution. They will work closely with the Events Director to ensure that our events run smoothly and seamlessly.

Key tasks include:

  • Proactively identifying event opportunities that fit our mission to empower ABCs
  • Scoping and executing event planning
  • Fulfilling on-the-ground logistics such as collecting prizing, scoping out venues, building relationships with venue managers
  • Running events during events nights, ensuring event objectives are met
  • Assisting the Events Director as necessary

Ideally, you have:

  • Knowledge of planning and running events
  • Self driven creativity to drive events forward successfully 
  • A passion and enthusiasm for exploring the Asian Australian identity and community 

Time commitment: up to 3-4 hours per week

Editorial Marketing Associate

Role description: Editorial Marketing Associate will assist the Writing team (consisting of Writers and Editors) in planning and executing marketing strategies for editorial content for AAP. They will sit within the Writing team but will work collaboratively with the Marketing Director and the Marketing Team. They will work in conjunction with the Lead Editor to plan and promote editorial content across AAP’s social media. They will also collaborate with the Event’s Team to curate events from editorial content. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in marketing in the writing and publishing industry and wants to gain experience in working in a multidisciplinary team in the social justice space. Please be aware that this is a volunteer position and if successful, we will be happy to negotiate your weekly/fortnightly commitment. 

Key tasks include:

  • Planning, creating and executing marketing material across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn)
  • Working with the Lead Editor and Marketing Director to determine future marketing strategy and direction
  • Working with the Lead Editor in developing major editorial projects and content 
  • Conducting research and data analysis to optimise our marketing reach and effectiveness – reporting
  • Working closely with the events and management teams to help grow the scope of AAP and develop new exciting initiatives for editorial content

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Background in marketing, media, communications and/or public relations
  • Knowledge about Asian Australian news/organisations/initiatives/events or willingness to research the area
  • Knowledge about editorial content spaces (writing and publishing) for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities in Australia or willingness to research the area
  • An understanding of the media landscape specifically Facebook, Instagram LinkedIn and Twitter
  • A sound understanding of marketing techniques, customer behaviour, and market research methods.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills – (written and verbal)
  • A passion and enthusiasm for exploring the Asian Australian identity and community 
  • A passion for social justice within an Australian context

Vice President (Sydney – Based) 

Role description:

The Vice President will be responsible for supporting the President and the wider team of the Asian Australian Project (AAP). This is a leadership position in which you will be working closely with the President and assisting the Management Team (Events, Editorial, Finance/ Legal Marketing, Visual Content) in the running of their projects and team. This role will primarily have an internal facing with a strong focus on the day to day running, aiding with internal operations (administration) of the organisation.

This is a great opportunity for any Asian-Australian professional with a keen interest in

Asian-Australian issues, community-building and want to develop their leadership skills.

Key tasks:

  • Work closely with the President in the development and implementation of the AAP’s Vision and Strategy. 
  • Manage the internal operations and systems of AAP to ensure quality assurance and maintenance of activities of daily operations such as project management and volunteer engagement. 
  • Engage in stakeholder development, partnership outreach, and represent AAP at networking and collaboration opportunities 
  • Overseeing volunteer management to increase efficiency through understanding of team dynamics, group work, and maximising operational performance  
  • Onboarding and upskilling volunteers where necessary
  • Guiding and empowering Asian Australians to execute ideas and concepts in relation to identity and culture through AAP’s platform  
  • Attending and assisting in the hosting AAP events where needed

Ideally, you have:

  • Project management and leadership experience (highly desirable, but you will be supported by the wider Management Team)
  • Relevant experience in leading a team from diverse and intersectional backgrounds
    • Professional experience in People and Culture and Operations will be looked favourably upon.
  • A broad knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the Asian Australian community,
  • A passion for educating and advocating for the Asian Australian community
  • A passion for social justice and advocacy in an Australian context

Time commitment: 4 – 5 hours/week (project dependent but we are flexible and open to negotiate)

Design Associate

Role description: DAs play a crucial role in bringing AAP’s advocacy vision to life. This includes designing visuals and posts that fit with our marketing and brand strategies. You will work closely with both Marketing Directors and Associates in creating material that promotes the AAP brand, AAP events, and other issues relevant to ABCs.

Key tasks include:

  • Designing graphics and other visual collateral for marketing posts
  • Designing graphics and other visual collateral for AAP brand
  • Working closely with Marketing Director to create engaging and aligned posts
  • Working in partnership with other organisations to create collaborative marketing material

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Creative approach to digital art and graphic design
  • Experience with using Canva and other design programs (Illustrator, Photoshoprocreate etc)
  • Great time organisational and ability to meet deadlines
  • A passion and enthusiasm for exploring the Asian Australian identity and community 
  • A passion for social justice in an Australian context

Writers

Role description: Writers will be responsible for creating content for the AAP journal. This includes interviews, articles, essays, resources and other content that is published in our journal. We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic writers looking to write about exploring the Asian Australian identity community. AAP is looking to critically reflect and interrogate experiences of what it means to be Asian Australian. This is a great opportunity for those budding journalists and aspiring writers who want a platform to amplify their voices and issues that are important to them. Please be aware that this is a volunteer position and if successful, we will be happy to negotiate your weekly/fortnightly commitment. 

Key tasks include:

  • Engage in a creative way about issues and areas of interest to them in relation to AAP and the broader Asian Australian community
  • Create engaging content with verified facts and relevant factual sourcing 
  • Curate articles to support AAP initiatives and events when needed 

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A broad knowledge of issues affecting the Asian Australian community
  • A passion for educating and advocating for the Asian Australian community
  • A passion for social justice in an Australian context
  • Great organisational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
